and they were cheap too, 235/40 ZR18 for 129 each which takes me back to the 11th commandment, you got what you paid for...I said never dunlops ever again, so I was SERIOUSLY hesitant to buy the tires I have on the car now. But they were on sale for LESS than the old tires, which made me more doubtful, but every single feedback was a rave review, including a G owner who autocrossed here in my town. I can say with absolute confidence that these tires are vastly superior to the SP8000's I only really pushed them consistently once right after I installed them. I had just installed the ES bushings and new shocks and sway bar, so I was itching to check out the whole setup's new capabilities. They went ALOT further before they even began to squeal. They are a bit unnerving in heavy rain (to be expected), but when I want to throw the car into an off ramp or on ramp,or see an open corner begging me to pull it hard. I can pull it much better than with those old crappy dunlops. I wouldnt buy these though if you are hard on your tires all the time, and are on a budget. They arent supposed to last beyond 6k. But I would never buy another set of those "bargain" dunlops for the same reasons you list. Sidewalls dont just explode though. If that was a trend of the tire it would be the next explorer/firestone fiasco. It is unfair to assign a freak occurance to an entire tire company.
